DESCRIPTION

At MIS we understand the importance of using core activities that focuses on student centered learning. Mastery of academic-required materials, professional qualification and development of the teaching staff through continuous workshops and training seminars contribute to this effect. MIS is a Pre K – 12, English medium language college preparatory school, that offers students from the international community and the State of Qatar an American curriculum based on the California standards. Particularly, in the core subject areas of math, science, social studies and English, leading to a high school diploma upon completion of Grades 9 -12 and 24 credit. They include:

Students in grades 6 – 12 are able to access our biology, chemistry and physics laboratories, as an integral part of their science curriculum programs.

MIS offers students an expanded curriculum that could include electives and approved on-line courses not offered at MIS (i.e., Computer Science, Advance Placement (AP) courses/11 & 12 grades, SAT preparation, honor courses, Spanish, Chinese etc.).

We also offer students a wide variety of elective courses like art, Information Communication Technology (ICT), marketing, and we include the history of Qatar in our world history curriculum. Integrated technology provides a high quality of instruction through the use of computers, laboratories, and technical skills are also included in the education program.

Seniors are required to take either the SAT’s or the ACT and all tenth grade students are required to take the PSAT, in preparation for the SATs, in October of each academic year. MIS is an authorized testing center for the PSAT.

Additionally, all high school students must read four (4) novels per year in English. Seniors are required to submit a research project, using universally recognize research principles, as well as an essay that reflects the student’s five (5) year career plan, and a community service project.

MIS is committed to providing the highest standard of academics and dedicated to giving students the level of education that will result in the increase in student’s achievements and performance, as well as maximizing their potentials. The School is now engaged in comprehensive reform efforts. The usage of new assessment forms for assessing the effectiveness of our curriculum, teaching, and student performance are now being applied. General reviews and surveys are to be conducted bi-annually for the entire education program, in order to remain updated with the most recent internationally accepted American curriculum. Professional relationships are established among teachers, instructional supervisors, administrators, parents, student council and students.

The self-review program we have in place is intended to capture the strengths of MIS, as well as indicate areas of need and improvement.

Excellence in education as we enter the 21st Century presupposes that technology is seamlessly integrated throughout our instructional program.

Our mission is learning at high levels while integrating technology seamlessly throughout our curriculum, and for preparing our students to be competitive in the international community.

To achieve our mission we will provide a supportive environment and an exemplary educational program built upon a foundation of respect and high standards for achievement and effort.


ADMISSIONS

Students may enroll before or at the start of the first semester or second semester of a school year, depending upon seat availability.
Upon submission of the completed Enrollment Application Form along with all the requisite documents, the student will sit for a Placement Test for the grade level he/she is applying for. [Kindergarten students will be assessed by the KG Supervisor.]
The student’s previous academic records will be reviewed, along with the results of his/her placement test or assessment, before he/she can officially be accepted at MIS. The final consideration for admission of any one student is also subject to the student’s behavior report from his/her previous school.
An interview of the student and/or meeting with the parents and the Principal is arranged, according to necessity. In certain cases, the School may put a student on probation or give admissions to a student with certain conditions, specific to the academic and/or behavior concerns.
MIS reserves the right to determine the most appropriate grade level a student should be admitted to, in light of all the documentation and previous school history of the student.

REGISTRATION:

Any new student may register, by means of accomplishing the Admission formalities. Any previous/returning student must re-register by first completing and or updating their student records file. [Enrollment Application Forms are available in the Administration Office.]
No student will be allowed to formally attend classes, until the entire Registration process is completed successfully.
The completion of all relevant parts of the Enrollment Application Form is necessary, and the specified student documents/requirements must be submitted accordingly.
The Undertaking to Uphold the Rules and Regulations of MIS document must also be duly signed by the parent and student, once their admissions in MIS is confirmed, during the Registration formalities.
Please note that, in the event that insufficient records are presented, this may delay the process of Registration and, ultimately, the decision pertaining to the admissions of a student.

PARENT’S DISCLOSURE OF REQUIRED REGISTRATION INFORMATION

Parents are required to produce ALL information (e.g. academic, medical, disabilities or special education history, and previous school-related social behavior) that will impact upon MIS’ ability to provide and/or ascertain whether or not the school can provide the most appropriate instruction program to the enrolling child upon registration.
Failure to disclose the information required can result in interrupted or terminated education services for that child, if, in the absence of such vital information, the child was enrolled in MIS, based on misleading information.

MEDICAL SERVICE INFORMATION

MIS requires that students in grades Pre-K through 12 and all parents be informed that school authorities may be permitted to excuse students in grades Pre-K through 12 to obtain confidential medical services information, without the consent of the parent.

PROMOTION/RETENTION OF STUDENTS

Students who are not making reasonable academic progress, as measured by appropriate skill acquisition, for that grade level, or by achieving at a rate at least equal to the previous year's progress, shall be retained.
Students participating in categorical programs designed to accommodate specialized needs, e.g. those 1) identified as handicapped and placed in Special Education/least restricted program, or 2) designated as Non-English Proficient (NEP), will not be retained, with consideration given to the student’s overall progress.
Parents will be notified as soon as possible when a student is identified as at risk of being retained by the end of the school year. Parents will be informed about the before-school, after-school, and/or summer academic prevention/intervention opportunities available for their child.
Currently, the only intervention programs for 8th grade Algebra students and high school students, taking core subjects (i.e. Math, Social Studies, Science and English), exists outside of MIS with the Florida Virtual School and/or VHS (Virtual High School); both of which are online programs.

SPECIAL EDUCATION SERVICES:

'Mainstreaming' as the Least Restrictive Learning Environment
At MIS, 'mainstreaming' is the only services that we provide for students with special needs; that is, for students whose ages are anywhere from 5 to 10 years old. 'Mainstreaming' in the context of education is a term that refers to the practice of educating students with special needs, in regular classes, during specific time periods, based on their skills.

PAYMENT OF FEES:

It is the desire of MIS to provide the fairest means possible for student education fees.
All of the required fees below, for new students, are NONREFUNDABLE. The Registration fee is will confirm and guarantee the seat reservation for any applying student. Parents are expected to comply with the deadline for Registration payment, once the formalities of admissions have been completed. Otherwise, MIS may opt to relinquish the availability of seat to another student.

TUITION FEE PAYMENT:

Tuition fees for the first term should be paid, prior to the beginning of classes on September.

Likewise, tuition fees for the second term should be paid by February when the next term begins.

Parents who would receive partial/complete educational assistance from their employers are responsible for the prompt payment of all school fees.
